Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai Denies He’s Manic Depressive

In an interview with Larry King set to air Monday, Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai laughs at the idea that he’s manic depressive. The U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry, is quoted in Bob Woodward’s new book, Obama’s Wars as saying that Karzai has received treatment for depression, and the assertion seemed to get further support when Karzai broke down in tears during a nationally televised talk about the security situation in Afghanistan. Karzai also acknowledged discussions  with the Taliban saying, “unofficial personal contacts have been going on for quite some time.”

Burberry model Tom Nicon commits suicide at start of Milan Fashion Week

Nicon, 22, committed suicide after he fell 20ft to his death from his apartment in Italy. He is thought to have been depressed after breaking up with his girlfriend.

The model, who was the male "face" of the British fashion label Burberry, died at the start of the Milan Men's fashion week. Tom also worked for Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss and Versace, for whom he had attended a show rehearsal the day he died. Fashion Week will go ahead with a tribute to the Frenchman.

Pop singer Rick Springfield is ramping up to write a tell all book about his colorful l♠ife. He is promising an "extremely candid" memoir detailing his long battle with depression. Alexa Ray Joel attempts suicide with St. John’s Wort?

 

A distraught Alexa Ray Joel, the 23 year old daughter of Billy “The Piano Man” Joel, succumbed to depression and swallowed 8 naturopathic pills containing St. John’s Wort and other benign herbs, then, thinking she was dying, freaked out and called 911. "EMS workers received a message from the 911 dispatcher saying: 'Female caller. Took eight pills. Wants to die. Now feels funny. Wants to live,' sources said." Paramedics rushed to Alexa’s West Village apartment and whisked her off to St. Vincent's Hospital a few blocks away.

One source categorized the episode as "a cry for help."She was released a few hours later and her publicist released a statement saying, “She is stable,” soon after she was brought to the hospital. Her mother, former supermodel Christie Brinkely, took her daughter to an undisclosed location.
